Alumni Feature # 3 Value of Christian Education

Dear Parents,

What is the value of a Christian education or more specifically a Trinity Christian School education? While we can assign a price tag, it is hard to add up the value in dollars and cents. It is really about what a student takes away and how they have been prepared for high school and beyond. It is as much if not more about the spiritual preparation as the academic preparedness. It is not an “either or”, but an “and”.

This was an important takeaway from our chapel this morning, in which we welcomed back Matt Walraven from the Trinity class of 2015. He took part in our, “Trinity’s Talk of the Town” in which both myself and our Principal for the Day, Jack Hubley, interviewed Matt to gain his perspective on his time at Trinity and how he is using what he learned in his life today.

Matt shared that his years at Trinity were an important part in shaping his passion for God’s word and his desire to teach and work with people. He felt this was modeled by Trinity staff who poured into him and provided him with a strong spiritual and academic foundation.

Some of the things he vividly remembers about Trinity are memorizing the books of the Bible through song along with Math multiplication skills. He also recalls great experiences competing in sports such as flag football when he went to the Argos stadium for a tournament. He encouraged students to make the most of their time here and lean into that the Lord has for them.

As he thought about the passage of scripture that is most impactful for him, he shared about Matthew 6:33 that says “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matt applies this daily, as he is using his talents and gifts by completing his Master’s Degree in Theology, serving in his local church on staff, and supply teaching in Christian schools where he shares his faith.

His advice to our students was to go after the Lord now and take advantage of the opportunity they have to be surrounded by Christian staff who invest in them. Just as a garden needs lots of elements to come together to blossom and flourish, so too our students need the care and support they receive to bear fruit.

What a great encouragement to our staff and students alike to hear how God is using Matt for His glory and how he is flourishing today!

Blessings,
