Give Thanks

Dear Parents,

In a year in which we are celebrating God’s faithfulness to us as a school for over 60 years, it is only fitting to be full of gratitude this Thanksgiving season. From classrooms to curriculum to community, we see Christ at work in our midst, which is the most important of all reasons to give thanks. In Psalm 100:4-5, the psalmist reminds us to “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

This morning, our grade 8 students reminded us of how gratitude changes our attitude through a powerful skit. While our circumstances may be challenging and not necessarily change, our heart position is what determines how we face them. When we take on a posture of gratitude, our attitude along with those around us begin to shift. In doing this, God takes our eyes off of our problems and rather places them on Him.

We often forget how much we have to be thankful for, particularly living in a country where there is so much bounty and affluence. By stepping back and evaluating our perspective, we begin to see how much God has given us and our challenges are recalibrated in the grand scheme of things.

As a source of encouragement, it was wonderful to hear our students share what they are thankful for, as can be seen on this short video. During your own celebration of Thanksgiving this weekend, we encourage you to take time with your children to consider all the ways that God has blessed you, express thanks to Him, and put your thankfulness in action by blessing someone else.

Many blessings to you and your family!
