Alumni Feature # 4- Memories
Dear Parents,
The big day is almost here as our Gala is 2 weeks away. If you haven’t reserved your spot yet, please do so right away, as you don’t want to miss out on this celebration. This will also be when we do our big reveal of the 60th anniversary video.
This week’s Alumni feature is about Jonathan Van Geest. He is the owner of the Van Geest Group, which is a real estate company focusing on the Burlington, Flamborough and Watertown area. He was a student at Trinity from 1985 to 1991 when we were located at our original campus on Walkers Line.
Jon recalls how the school directory only had 2 letters in the alphabet: D’s and V’s. It is amazing how much our school has grown in its diversity to the point where we have students from all 5 major continents.
He also shared great memories of his time at Trinity. This included math competitions in class and against older students, which made learning fun and exciting. In addition, the spiritual preparation that Jon received through daily devotions and teachers’ exemplifying a Christian life filled with hope, patience, peace, kindness played a pivotal role in forming his day to day life. “ I think that discipline at a young age to learn the Bible has had a massive impact on my life moving forward, because you recognize when you have God’s Word at the tip of your tongue, you’re more able to handle life’s situations in a way that’s pleasing to God.”
Jonathan believes that the academic and spiritual foundation that he received during his time at Trinity caused him to be well prepared and ahead of his peers. This set him up for success then and now. He points to the strong sense of community, caring staff, and faith component that were the difference makers. This is also why he believes that Trinity will continue to grow in the future, as parents are looking for these characteristics in a school.
In conclusion, Jonathan shared that “Seeing where the school started and where it is today is amazing. It just shows how faithful God is and it is also so great to see a school have an impact on kids at an early age.”
Blessings,
J-D Lussier, Principal
