Wellness
Dear Parents,
Throughout this week, we have taken some time to highlight the theme of Wellness. You may be wondering why this is important and how we are doing this. For starters, our theme verse connected to this week comes from Luke 10:27, which says:, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. In order to accomplish this most important command, Jesus clearly demonstrates how all of our being needs to be a part of our love.
It is the same reason that when God performed miracles, he didn’t stop at just the spirit, heart, mind, or the body; he healed all of them. It is only when all components work together that we experience true wellness. This is why we broke down a theme for each day centered around our heart, mind, soul, strength (body), and neighbour.
At times, we need coping skills to help when any one of these is out of alignment. The reality is that when we are not in a good place ourselves, we have difficulty loving and serving others, which limits our impact. Invariably, our relationship with God, ourselves, and others is intricately connected. It is necessary to ground ourselves in the truth that God has created each of us in His own image and are valued accordingly. Our children need to be reminded of this (and so do we as adults).
We also are reminded that our bodies are a temple. Contrary to how the world portrays this though, we do not have a temple made for ourselves, but rather it is the Holy Spirit’s. How much more important is it then to take care of it, as it’s not even our own.
Our hope is that this will be an encouragement to you and your family to make time to take care of yourself, so that you can more fully serve the Lord and others. Here is a prayer from 3 John 1:2 that best captures this sentiment: “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul”
Blessings,
