Ready! Set! Go!

Dear Parents,

Ready! Set! Go! We are off to the races (literally) today at Trinity. As we host our annual Trinity Track and Field competition, we can see our students striving to do their best, as their put their physical skills to test and push themselves to gain ribbons. In addition, the winning students will get to represent our school at the larger gathering of Christian Schools in June.
As I watch our students compete,  I am reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 that says, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”

According to historians, Paul wrote this while he watched the original Olympians competing in races. As he points out, there are many good practices to be gained from the discipline of our body through sports and character building opportunities, such as perseverance and self-control. Of even greater importance though, is our persevering in the faith by aligning our conduct and actions with God’s word, as we discipline our bodies and spirit to walk in obedience with God’s word.

As we have fun competing today, our desire is for students to see these connections and continue to grow in their athletic abilities, all the while developing a godly character that will produce lasting value and a heavenly reward.

Blessings,
