Helpfulness

Our theme this month at Trinity is Helpfulness. Our desire is to see students who serve and go out of their way to help each other. As Christ followers, we know that we are called to serve one another, as Jesus so vividly illustrated by washing the disciples' feet. What makes our service so different as Christians though? It is all about the reason we help others and serve.

In Ephesians 2, Paul reminds us that it is not through our works that we are saved, but rather by God’s incredible grace. In many other religions and even in our own self-serving ways, we often forget that we cannot do enough to earn our salvation or cause God to love us more than He already does. Verse 5 tells us that while we were still dead in our sins, Christ made us alive with Him. We couldn’t get lower than that, yet God still chose to show us His grace. He adds that His grace is a free gift to us.

When we recognize the value of this gift and how much it cost God, it should push us to give back and serve others. Verse 10 mentions that He made us in His workmanship and created us for good works in Christ Jesus. In other words, God put the ability to create beautiful things and to do good things for His glory in our DNA. What a great reminder for our students that the reason we are helpful and serve others is because of our response to God’s grace and love for us.
