Happy new year

A Challenge for 2019

Dear Parents,

I hope that you all had an excellent Christmas and a blessed time with your family. As we begin a new calendar year, it is always a great time to “take inventory” of the areas in which God is blessing us, as well as looking for targets that we can set to improve areas that are lagging in our lives. Often people will go to the extent of making New Year’s Resolutions. Unfortunately, much of the data suggests that we are not very good at keeping those resolutions.

One article by US News, reports that approximately 80 percent of resolutions are broken by the second week of February. Meanwhile, Forbes suggests that only 8 percent of people achieve their New Year’s goals or resolutions (based on a report from the University of Scranton).

This is a great illustration that we struggle to follow through on our commitments in and of ourselves. Instead, we need God’s strength and alignment with His will to truly succeed. Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

My challenge to each of us is to take time in these first few weeks of January to ask the Lord what He would have us do individually and collectively this year in order to advance His kingdom with the gifts and skills that He has given to us. I know that He has great things in store for each of your families and for our school. I’m so thankful that we do not have to rely on our strength to accomplish these tasks, but rather that we can count on Him.

Blessings,
